Meet The Interns! (part 1)

We were incredibly fortunate this year to have been able to partner with National Louis University's Careerbridge program to get the help and support of an amazing cohort of interns. For our non-local friends, for more than 130 years, National Louis University has offered a progressive and professional education that builds careers, cultivates leaders and strengthens communities, and according to Money Magazine, NLU ranks in top 10 colleges nationally whose graduates say best prepared them to “make the world a better place.”

As a 100% donor-funded non-profit, we couldn't provide the post-placement support to birthparents that we do without the generous time and support volunteers and interns provide to us, in all facets of our work. Because of the work our latest intern group is doing, we will be able to offer help to more birthparents, educate more people in the adoption constellation, and remain the gold-standard in comprehensive post-placement care. We thought it might be fun to let you all meet the National Louis students joining us this semester. First up, Jennifer and Julia, and next week, we will be introducing you to Marcia and Kiara.

What is your major, and what year are you in?

I am at Junior at National Louis University. My major is Human Services.

What made you pick this major. What do you like most about it, and what is most challenging
about it?

I chose to pursue the field of Human Services because I noticed that many services were
unavailable or inaccessible to individuals living within my community that I felt were important to
an adequate quality of life. I chose this major to be an advocate and to bring awareness to issues
that impact the underrepresented.
I like that I have the ability to potentially change or impact someone’s life in a positive manner.
The most challenging part about this field is the desire to help everyone.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

After graduation my plan is to pursue a master’s in social work. I am really hoping to be able to have a career within the Human Services field. Right now, I am
open to all of the possibilities.

When you aren't studying or working, what are you doing for fun?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends and binge watch on Netflix.

What is your major, and what year are you in?

I am in my 3rd year at National Louis University and I will obtain my Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services.

What made you pick this major. What do you like most about it, and what is most challenging
about it?

The reason I chose this major is because I like being a resource to those in need such as employment, going back to school and most importantly lending a listening ear to those who just need to talk.  What I find most challenging about this major is I am a sympathetic person and it's can be difficult sometimes to not want to take action and help in a capacity, but I love this major.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

I hope to work in the IDHS (Illinois Department of Human Sevices) where I can assist people with employment, aid and going back to school.

When you aren't studying or working, what are you doing for fun?

I like to go to the movies and read books and poetry.
