Beyond Placement :: A Monthly Space for Deeper Healing

Are you a birthparent who feels like you sometimes need more support than peer groups can provide?
You're not alone, and we want to help.
What This Group Is About
Many birthparents come to us feeling overwhelmed by challenges that go beyond their adoption experience. Maybe you're struggling with depression or anxiety that just won't lift. Perhaps your relationships feel complicated or strained. You might be dealing with career uncertainty, health issues, or just feeling stuck.
While our regular support groups provide amazing peer connection (and we love them!), sometimes you need something more. That's where this new therapeutic support group comes in.
What Makes This Different
This isn't just a support group—it's actual therapy, led by a professional who understands adoption trauma. We'll meet monthly via Zoom, giving you:
- Professional support for the complex stuff you're dealing with
- A safe space to work through overwhelming feelings, anxiety, relationship issues, career struggles, and more
- Connection with others who understand what it's like to be a birthparent
- Practical tools for managing stress, improving relationships, and taking care of yourself
- Flexibility of meeting from home—no travel required
Why We're Starting This Group
Hi! I'm Alexis, and I've been On Your Feet's Executive Director for the past 10 years. Working closely with our staff and birthparents over the years has taught me that many birthparents need more intensive support than peer groups alone can provide.
That's why I'm pursuing my Master's in Social Work and starting this therapeutic support group under the supervision of Billy Kaplan, a licensed therapist who specializes in adoption trauma. This isn't just another program—it's a response to what our community has been telling us they need.
