For the fourth year, On Your Feet has invited birthmoms from near and far to gather together as a community on Saturday, May 11, Birthmother's Day, to honor birthmothers while providing a safe and supportive space to process the complicated emotions Birthmother's Day and Mother's day can bring. This year, we are incorporating our retreat theme — Beautiful, Not Broken — into our event. And just like our retreats, our event is hosted by birthmothers, for birthmothers.
Beautiful, not Broken, refers to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, a porcelain repair technique in which broken ceramics are put back together by sealing the broken edges together with real gold. Kintsugi recognizes that the value of an object is not rooted in perfection, but rather in its imperfections, and that these repairs are what makes things beautiful.
